Water Leakage

If water leaks from your air conditioning unit to the wall or ceiling, you may have a clog in the drainage system. Please provide the following information and refrain from using/operating the unit to prevent the problem from escalating.

  • Where is the leak observed?

  • Condensate water is produced under normal operation of the air conditioning unit. Sometimes, these can creep into the barrel fan and be blown out through the air vent causing a “rain effect” indoors. This is normal.
  • When the heating operation is turned on, the outdoor unit melts the accumulated frost and discharges it as water or steam. In such a case, it is normal to see water dripping or white smoke (Odorless) from the outdoor unit.
  • During cooling, the pipes in the outdoor unit become cold and cause water condensation. In such a case, it is normal to see water dripping from the outdoor unit.

How long has it been since the last maintenance? Accumulated dirt and grime from the coil can get dislodged and clog the drain system over time, causing condensate water to leak. Schedule your maintenance service here to keep your system in top shape.

Sparks or Flames

Turn off the unit immediately and switch off the dedicated circuit breaker when your air conditioning unit produces sparks or flames. Please provide the following information and refrain from using/operating the unit to prevent the problem from escalating.

  • Where is the spark/flame observed?
  • Did the circuit breaker trip?

Does not cool

Please check the following before calling for servicing If your air conditioning unit is not blowing cool air.

  • Is the operation mode set to cooling?
    • The operation mode might be accidentally changed to heating. Please switch the operation mode back to cooling
  • Is the thermostat set to the desired temperature?
    • The Cooling performance of air conditioners depends on factors such as; room size, amount of heat sources, number of people, rated capacity, and many more. Any deviation from the standard rating/capacity will cause performance issues with the system, e.g. more people in the room, additional heat sources etc. Please adjust the thermostat setting to suit the current room condition.
  • Is the fan set to the appropriate speed?
    • Airflow dictates how much air is “conditioned” at any moment (m3/min). You can adjust air volume by increasing the fan speed.
    • Increasing the fan speed should be noticeable audibly and felt. If the air blown by the unit feels the same despite the changes in the setting, the fan may be dirty and It may be time for your system to have its maintenance service.
  • Is the air direction aimed towards the widest area coverage and free from obstructions/objects?
    • Improper air direction and obstructions in the airflow can cause the system to detect false room temperature readings causing your system to “think” that it has achieved the desired temperature and turn off its cooling operation prematurely. Please adjust the air direction or remove any obstruction and see if the condition will improve.
  • Are the windows and doors closed during operation?
    • Air conditioning systems can cool a limited amount of area. Opening windows and doors will subject the system to cover a larger area than what it is designed for causing poor cooling performance. Please close windows and doors and see if the condition will improve.
  • Is the timer set in the “ON” position
    • Turning the Timer function on sets the air conditioning unit in automatic mode. This setting allows the unit to bypass manual control. Please turn off the Timer function and operate the unit manually or you can adjust the timer setting and see if the condition will improve.
  • Is there an error code shown in the remote controller or wall controller?
    • Throwing error codes is the air conditioning unit’s way of letting us know there is an issue or malfunction within the system. These error codes are typically displayed on the remote control, indoor unit display or the wall controller of the air conditioning unit.
    • Contact a professional HVAC technician if you encounter error codes on your system for further assistance

If you’ve tried these steps and are still experiencing the issue, contact a professional technician for further assistance.

  • How long has it been since the last maintenance? Poor cooling performance can be experienced If your air conditioning system is due for maintenance. Accumulated Dirt and grime can cause decreased cooling performance and in extreme cases cause damage to the system. Schedule your maintenance service here to keep your system in top shape.

Does not heat

Please check the following before calling for servicing If your air conditioning unit is not blowing hot air.

Does not operate

Please check the following before calling for servicing If your air conditioning unit is not responsive/does not operate.

  • ● Is the circuit breaker in the ON position?
    • A circuit breaker connects your air conditioning equipment to the main electrical line. Under normal operation, it should be turned ON to allow electricity to flow. In the event of an electrical short, the circuit breaker “trips” to prevent your air conditioning unit from getting damaged.
    • Turn ON the breaker and see if the issue persists. If the circuit breaker keeps “tripping”, keep it in the OFF position and contact a professional.
  • ● Is the isolator switch in the ON position?
    • An isolator switch is a device similar to a circuit breaker that protects components in the circuit in case of an electrical short. It is usually used to protect the outdoor unit in an air conditioning unit. In the event of an electrical short, the isolator “trips” to prevent the outdoor unit from getting damaged.
    • Turn ON the breaker and see if the issue persists. If the isolator switch keeps “tripping”, keep it in the OFF position and contact a professional.
  • ● Is the air conditioning unit plugged into the outlet?
    • Depending on the installer’s method, an electrical plug can be utilised instead of directly connecting the air conditioning unit to the circuit breaker. Sometimes, the unit can be unplugged without us noticing. Plug it back into the outlet and see if the issue is resolved.
  • ● Is the Remote/Wall controller operational?
    • See our Remote and Wall controller Troubleshooting Guide
  • ● Is there an error code shown in the remote controller or wall controller?
    • Throwing error codes is the air conditioning unit’s way of letting us know there is an issue or malfunction within the system. These error codes are typically displayed on the remote control, indoor unit display or the wall controller of the air conditioning unit.
    • Contact a professional HVAC technician if you encounter error codes on your system for further assistance

If you’ve tried these steps and are still experiencing the issue, contact a professional HVAC technician for further assistance.

  • ● Has the power switch been turned off while the unit is operational?
  • ● Has there been a power failure recently?

Operation and Safety Features

Modern air conditioning units are equipped with features that allow efficient operation and protection that can be mistaken for a malfunction. There is no need to worry if your system is showing any of the following scenarios

  • ● Self-check – Modern air conditioning units have a “self-check” function to ensure all components are working especially after being unexpectedly interrupted during operation. It is normal for the air conditioning unit to have a delay during the following scenarios;
    • ○ When the system starts up or restarts
    • ○ When there are power interruptions that force the unit to restart
    • ○ When there is a change in operation E.g. from cooling to heating
    • ○ Special functions, e.g. Some units have a function that removes stagnant odour from the indoor unit when dry or cooling operation is activated before the air is discharged.
  • Automatic Operation – You can expect the air conditioning unit to turn ON and OFF during operation (for heating and cooling operations). The air conditioning does this to maintain the set temperature.
  • Heating operation
    • ○ It is normal for the air conditioning unit not to blow air immediately after starting up when set to heating operation. Please allow it to warm up for about 3 minutes.
    • ○ The air conditioning unit can stop unexpectedly during defrost operations. Please allow the unit to complete defrosting for about 3 to 10 minutes depending on the severity of ice build-up in the outdoor unit.
  • Cooling operation – Mist can sometimes be discharged from the air outlet of the indoor unit. The mist is formed due to the rapid cooling of moisture inside the room
  • Circuit Protection – Modern air conditioning systems have sensors that detect abnormal operation. When these sensors detect an abnormality, they can bypass normal operation and shut down the system to avoid damaging its internal components. E.g. Severe voltage fluctuation, thermal overloads, short circuits, etc.

Contact a professional HVAC technician for further assistance if your air conditioning unit shows symptoms other than those listed here.
